ORPHANS

Kefa Sempangi (pictured above, left)) was a member of Parliament in Uganda from the 1970's until 2006. He left Parliament to focus more on ministry work with children. He continues to be mightily used by the Lord in Uganda.
The little girl you see above (right) is a 4 year old orphan who has AIDs.
Kefa Sempangi has been working with child-headed families for many years. Child headed simply means that the parents have died, leaving the oldest child as the head of the family. These children often end up on the streets with no hope and no future. Kefa's work with these children led to Rashid Luswa and Sam Bongole opening an orphanage, which has saved many children from a life of poverty and illiteracy. Many of the children in the child-sponsorship program that Mercy Uganda is doing are children in that very orphanage. By sponsoring a child, you help the orphanage, and you help the many child-headed families have hope and a future.
If you want to learn more about Kefa Sempangi and his work with children, we recommend you read his books that we have listed on this website. You may also check out his website:

CLEAN DRINKING WATER.....
One of the goals of Mercy Uganda is to locate partners and resources to help provide clean, safe, and accessible water to our sisters and brothers in Uganda. This will provide for the most basic needs of women and children, and their communities, such as better health, better hygiene, and better overall living conditions. Notice the children carrying jerry cans in this small remote village of Kyamagemule/Kalangaalo. They are preparing to make the 1/2 mile hike to get unclean water....their only source.
THE WELL PROJECT IS NEARING COMPLETION and we plan to have it drilled by September 2010. We are working closely with a missionary in Uganda whose ministry also includes well projects. We will keep you updated on this project.LEARNING A SKILL.....BUILDING A FUTURE
Through partnerships in the U.S. we were able to provide sewing machines to ladies in 4 different geographic locations in Uganda. They will learn skills in sewing which will allow them to provide for themselves and their families.
MEDICAL
We found this little boy (Julius) in a hut in the woods. He was close to death. Mercy Uganda was able to pay for him to be taken to a hospital in Kampala where he was found to be suffering from malnutrition, worms, and untreated malaria.
This is Julius now....5 months later! He is doing wonderfully and is now able to walk. (June 2010) We were also able to provide mosquito nets to the family through financial gifts of sponsors.

This is Kato, a 13 year old boy who needs surgery to correct a condition where his legs are disjointed and appear to bend backward at the knees. It is becoming increasingly difficult for him to walk.
Mercy Uganda works with partners in the U.S. and overseas to help meet the needs of women and children in Uganda. This also includes help in the areas of Medical, as well as efforts to provide clean, safe, and accessible water. If you are in the medical field and would like to get involved, or if you are someone who just wants to help meet the medical needs of young Ugandans like Paul (above),or the little boy on our About Us page, please contact us. We would love to have you partner with us!

CHILD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM..
We are looking for sponsors to help with school fees for children in three specific schools in Uganda. The cost is minimal and also provides for meals for the children. If you are interested, or would like more information about Child Sponsorships, please contact us by using the "Contact Us" page of this website.
This precious little family above needs help with sponsorship as well as food and shelter.

The young lady below recently earned a diploma in sewing in Uganda. She is now using her new skills to provide for herself and to help others. She received one of the sewing machines and is now involved with Mercy Uganda through sewing uniforms and knitting sweaters for the children of Karamoja.
