Events and Updates

We dedicate this page to new information and events that we think you will be interested in knowing about. These are events that take place both in the U.S. and Uganda that will help with the ongoing work of Mercy Uganda.

 UPCOMING EVENTS:

NancyJinks and Laura Knetzer, receiving a check from Doug Merkle and the Kiwanis Club of Panama City. (Wednesday, March 3, 2010)

The Kiwanis Club of Panama City, Florida have generously donated $500.00 to Mercy Uganda for our Well Project in Kalangaalo/Kyamagemule.  When Laura spoke to the Kiwanis Club in December it just happened that one of the new Kiwanis members brought his fiance' as a guest. She told her mother, who was visiting from California, about Mercy Uganda. Her mother viewed our website and is sponsoring a child.  Now her mother's husband and his company in California have offered a matching funds gift of up to $5,000.00 for the project.  For every dollar we raise for the well project up to $5000.00, they will match it.  Praise the Lord for how He provides!

The young ladies above are pregnant teens in Uganda.  You see them cooking dinner at Return To Bethel Maternity Home, where they live free of charge, and receive care and support for them and their unborn babies.  This is one of the programs that Mercy Uganda supports.  Our ministry liaison, Lauren Walker, will be working with girls who reside at Return To Bethel through meeting educational needs, and basic literacy.  The director, Joy Luswa, opened this home just over a year ago.

Mercy Uganda is honored to be involved with Veronica Nakyewe and the Comforter Center, the pregancny care center in Uganda where Veronica is the director.  Below is a picture of Veronica and her staff and volunteers. Veronica is the lady at the top, left.

Through the 152 Campaign that we ran in 2008, we raised  $152,000.00, providing the resources Veronica needed to purchase the building the Comforter Center had been renting, and which was up for sale. We were also able to provide an Ultrasound machine for her in this same campaign, and our partnership with International Aid.

The Comforter Center is a pregnancy center that has ministered to thousands of women in Uganda, and has saved countless babies. They also go into the schools teaching abstinence education.  Our ministry liaison, Lauren Walker, will be working closely with Veronica in this ministry while serving in Uganda for the next eighteen months. This will be one of several projects she is preparing to work with through Mercy Uganda and our ministry work with women and children.

 STUDENT DESK UPDATE-

We are excited to announce that a gift was given providing the money needed to build all 40 desks at Kalangaalo/Kyamagemule!!  The 40 desks will be built this summer and will seat 200 children.  Thank you to our donor for this wonderful gift to us!

Above is a picture of the current desks at Kalangaalo/Kyamagemule. The picture below is what the new desks will look like. The desks below were built last year for a school in Kajanssi.  We are excited that men in the village of Kalangaalo will help our construction team build the desks in June 2010.

This is a view of a child walking from her classroom to get water from the source over 1/2 a mile away.  The need for water and the distance they have to travel definitely negatively impacts their education.
