The children on the left are some of our sponsored children. In the center is a view of the porridge (wheat flour and water) that the children eat for lunch every day. Only the children who have sponsors, or who can pay the 20,000 shillings (about $10.00) per term are provided with this meal. On the left is a picture of bunk beds where children who board sleep at night.
The children you see featured on this page are in need of sponsors for their education. For a very small amount of money, a child can be given an education and receive food. The simple act of kindness in sponsoring a child will help alleviate the causes of poverty and injustice, and provide hope and a future. We are currently working with over 500 children in need of sponsors. We will be featuring different children on this page on at least a monthly basis. If you would like to help by sponsoring one of the children please contact us on the Contact Us page of this website. We will be more than happy to give you detailed information that will help you to help a child.

Most of our child sponsorships cost only an average of less than fifty cents a day. The cost for most of the schools with whom Mercy Uganda works is $150.00 a year for non-boarding students, and $450.00 a year for those who must live at the school.

The children below are from two remote villages in Karamoja, an area in North Eastern Uganda, close to the Sudan and Kenya borders.
How much does it cost to sponsor a child in Karamoja?
There are 3 terms per year, and each term is $70. A full year is $210.00. To begin school, a child has to meet certain requirements...school fees (at least 1 term), uniform, shoes, bedding (including a mattress), books, pens, and pencils, and pocket money for transportation. To pay for one term, plus requirements is $185.00. To pay for requirements and the full year in advance is $325.00. Many private, or Christian schools in the U.S. cost more than that per month, so you can see how far our financial gifts are able to go in Uganda. 100% of the sponsorship money goes to the child's education. No administrative or overhead fees are taken from the sponsorships.

Patience....a former sponsored child.

Patience was a sponsored child. Her testimony is shared below. Sponsoring a child to provide an education does far more than that....it gives them hope, and a future.
Patience: "I thank God for the sponsorship programs that come up in Uganda. Because of sponsorship programs I was able to go to school. After my high school, I was put into another program for University students. My sponsor paid my tuition, and room and board. May God bless all the people who have a vision for the children of Uganda. I got my first sponsor when I was in Grade 9. I got my second sponsor when I was about to enter Makarere University and she paid my tuition for three years. I was able to graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences. I majored in psychology and minored in social administration. "
Patience is now seeking how God can use her to help others.....she is a blessing!

WITH YOUR SPONSORSHIP :
1. We let you know if they have siblings in need of sponsorship.
2. You will receive pictures and updates at least quarterly, including health and progress in school.
3. We will be working with your sponsored child(ren) to help them write to you, and we will be happy to deliver letters and small packages you may want to give them from you.
4. If you would like to send small monetary gifts to your child in addition to the educational sponsorship, you may do so, and you can let us know how you would like that money used.
5. We would be honored for you to form a long term relationship with your child, helping them even to secondary school, if you so desire and are able. This is a gift above and beyond, and offers more than they could imagine possible.
6. Some of the students travel great distances to attend school. This is why some cost more than others, as they must board at the school. Most schools in Uganda are mixed, boys and girls both attending the same school.
If you have other questions regarding a child sponsorship, please contact us on the "contact us" page. We will be happy to answer your questions.
